Simon Schnorr "with a magnificent baritone voice and great stage presence" in the role of Casanova at the Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn TOBS
The 2021/22 season begins for Simon Schnorr with a reunion as Casanova in Paul Burkhard's (1911-1977) opera "Casanova in Switzerland" at the →Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn TOBS. Last autumn, the work, which had fallen into oblivion and was first performed at the Zurich Opera House on 20 February 1943, celebrated its acclaimed rediscovery at the Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn TOBS. Due to the Corona-related ban on events in Switzerland, the premiere performance on 30 October 2020 simultaneously became the Dernière, whereupon all performance dates for the 2020/21 season were postponed to the 2021/22 season. Taking over the title role was a great personal success for Simon Schnorr. His accumulated experience as an interpreter of Giacomo Casanova in his collaboration with Hollywood actor John Malkovich in his musical theatre production "The Giacomo Variations" stood him in good stead in his role preparation for "Casanova in Switzerland", as did his numerous confrontations in the embodiment of a second great seductive figure in European cultural history, that of Don Giovanni in Mozart's opera of the same name.
At the premiere of "Casanova in Switzerland" at the Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn TOBS, the press judged as follows:
"[…] Simon Schnorr […] let us hear a baritone voice of eminent treble brilliance and a rich, virile middle register [...]."
Th. Baltensweiler, Das Opernglas, December 2020
"With his luminous baritone, Simon Schnorr is the perfect seducer in the title role […]."
Peter Hagmann, Opernwelt, December 2020
"Simon Schnorr […] fills the role with splendid baritone and great stage presence with plump life."
Jan Krobot, Der Neue Merker, 02 November 2020
"[…] Simon Schnorr fills the title role magnificently […]."
Christian Berzins, CH Media, 02 November 2020
"Simon Schnorr is the silken seducer with a certain something. He contrasts the gallantry with his striking as well as changeable baritone."
Peter Wäch, O-Ton, 03 November 2020
"First and foremost Simon Schnorr in the title role, a womanizer from the crown of his head to the sole of his feet. A Casanova singer with Don Giovanni qualities, great voice and empathic acting."
Silvia Retz, Solothurner Zeitung, 02 November 2020
